Life of Julia from the Obama campaign
(CBS News) When the Obama campaign unveiled its fictional character Julia, officials hoped she might become a household name to show how the president's vision for the United States would benefit millions of Americans, especially women.
Instead, she is getting attention from Republicans who hope to use her to symbolize what they see as Mr. Obama's failures: An overreaching government.
According to the Twitter analytic Topsy, #Julia has been mentioned more than 20,000 times in the past two days as Republicans have been gleefully attacking Julia with their own interpretation of what she represents.
In "The Life of Julia," the Obama campaign released a web slideshow that takes the viewer through the life stages of a fictional woman named Julia. At age three, a slide says Julia is enrolled in the government Head Start program, which says presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney would slash. Later in life, the web tool says Julia received cheaper student loans, a Pell Grant and a tax credit. She benefited from the health care law and in her older years, Julia received Medicare and Social Security.
To Republicans, she represents a society increasingly dependent on government handouts.
Blogger Michelle Malkin hit the Twittersphere attacking Julia and has been retweeted nearly 600 times as of mid-day Friday.

And conservative writer Carrie Lucas wrote in the National Review Online that the life of Julia is "insulting."
"This latest tactic in the administration's 'War on Women' campaign is frankly insulting in its implication that women all need constant government help to get from the cradle to the grave," Lucas wrote.
The Republican Party says "The Life of Julia" is just another "gimmick" of "hype and blame" by the Obama campaign, riffing on Mr. Obama's 2008 theme of "hope and change."
"What's more, hyping and blaming is an admission of failure. If the president had a successful record, he would point to his first term and just say "Let's have more of that!" Republican National Committee communications director Sean Spicer wrote in a memo Friday.
In an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal, James Taranto writes, "Obama is setting forward a vision contrary to the American tradition of self-sufficiency--a welfare state that runs from cradle to grave."
As the Labor Department's announcement Friday morning that the economy added just 115,000 new jobs in April, Republicans took to Twitter to say "Julia needs a job."

Never liked Obam's speech writers, his so called "spokespersons, press secretary, NYT, WaPo like manger dogs to make him look good. and the fictitious victory laps around the Pacific.
Having been fair to your readers, let me get into a feature of my comment.
CBSNEWS, you are in the business of making money. I am not. What is good for the democracy is good enough for Barack, Hillary and I.
If Barack finds himself in a deep Doo-Doo, not because he is bad but because he can't find his own bearing. He should say all that he wants to say, in his own words, not thru bunch of paid or unpaid script writers.
I never get into that situation. What I write is totally mine, warts and all.

- Let's present a more realistic view of Obama's Julia's life:

---age 3 - Julia gets a new-and-improved Head Start, which a new HHS study shows won't do anything for her anyway.
---age 17 - Race to the Top improves Julia's SAT scores(?). Even so, she's down the list from all of the home-schooled children and the charter- and private-school students who actually got an education rather than an NEA indoctrination.
---age 18 - Julia's family qualifies for a $10,000 tuition tax credit spread out over four years, while Obama's student-loan subsidies drive tuition costs up even faster.
---age 22 - Julia undergoes surgery, which has to be funded by her parents' employers despite Julia being an adult, and which will be most likely delayed as providers decline in number thanks to the economics of ObamaCare.
---age 23 — Thanks to the Lily Ledbetter Act, trial attorneys get rich by filing lawsuits against employers that otherwise wouldn't have been brought, leaving fewer resources to hire Julia. No college job for our intrepid Julia!
---age 25 - Julia finally gets her 4-year degree in seven years, thanks to the inability to handle the tuition bubble and the lack of work. However, the good news is that the $200,000 in student loans will only hang over her head for 20 years, while taxpayers like Julia end up paying for the costs of default.
---age 27 - Julia wants to have sex for the first time in her life, apparently, and is looking for contraception. Her employer would provide it for free thanks to the ObamaCare HHS mandate ... if she could only find a job.
---age 31 - Julia gets pregnant, which tells you all you need to know about free contraception. Oddly, Julia hasn't gotten married first, probably because the economy is so poor by this time with the huge entitlement debt crisis breaking that no one can conceive of putting a home together. Fortunately, ObamaCare makes pregnancy possible, because until Obama took office, no one ever got pregnant, since government support and approval for it didn't exist.
---age 37 - Julia's son Zachary, named after his sperm donor, starts school. Head Start has long since disappeared, apparently, but Race to the Top still exists. Must be a marathon.
---age 42 - Julia starts a business with an SBA loan, which also apparently never existed before Obama took office. Her student loans are just three years away from defaulting onto the backs to taxpayers, so that's good news.
---age 65 - My, how time flies! (Do women do nothing of value between 42 and 65?) Julia enrolls in Medicare, which ceased to exist decades earlier, thanks to the fact that Obama and Tim Geithner didn't have a plan to address the debt crisis.
---age 67 - Julia retires, since the entitlement collapse wiped out her business and the rest of the American economy. The timeline stops here, which suggests that the IPAB probably denied her care, as she was nothing but a drain on society by this time, and the few resources they have left had to be used to pay for face lifts for members of Congress.
What we are left with is a celebration of a how a woman can live her entire life by leaning on government intervention, dependency and other people's money rather than her own initiative or hard work.
It's a mindset that women should find offensively patronizing. Yet, according to the "Life of Julia," women are helpless without the guiding hand of Barack Obama.

- You know I'm really tired of fawning corporate media peddling the Hollywood/Tea Bag Republican version of American history: the lone wolf settler crossing the continent, building farms, towns and industries. It never happened like that. Early Americans were socialists, only they didn't call themselves that. The government picked economic winners and losers throughout our history, and still does, even by giving tax loopholes to outsourcers.
